ealousy arises as a reaction to the fear of losing someone close and triggers emotions of discontent, suffering, melancholy and anger, with the desire that the presence of a third person does not exist (Díaz et al., 1989). To date, there have been numerous studies that measure and correlate them according to gender, but only a few have been found according to sexual orientation. Therefore, this study was developed with the aim of comparing jealousy among adults between 18 and 35 years of age, homosexuals and heterosexuals, in Metropolitan Lima. The Multidimensional Jealousy Inventory of Diaz-Loving (1989) adapted to the Peruvian population by Bautista (2017) was applied to 343 volunteers (49.9% heterosexuals and 50.1% homosexuals), of whom 263 (76.3%) were between 18 and 24 years of age. Employing a comparative design, the study revealed that the heterosexual population excelled in the Emotional/Pain, Anger, Selfishness and Intrigue dimensions, while the homosexual population scored higher in the Trust dimension. In addition, it was evident that all the dimensions of the instrument presented significant differences, with the exception of the Selfishness dimension. The implications are found mainly in the social area, where it is observed to a greater extent in homosexual relationships, being the social norms the ones that affect the way in which the people in these relationships experience jealousy.
