Under the premise of the implementation of project management based on the PMBOK® 6th edition guide with integration of the visual management of the Kanban model in the Tailings Tanks Construction for a contractor company, best practices of project management were implemented in the context of the expansion of a tailings dam in the construction industry. The main objective was to increase the tailings storage capacity of a dam that was in its fifth phase of construction. A key feature of this project was the integration of visual management of the Kanban model into procurement management. This enabled real-time tracking of project procurement and optimized efficiency in the procurement process for key materials. Despite the challenges faced, such as lack of schedule tracking, lack of a work breakdown structure (WBS), and scope expansion without proper change management, the integration of Kanban into procurement proved to be an innovative and effective approach. Project management based on the PMBOK® guide was applied in critical areas such as scope, schedule, cost, quality, procurement and project risk management. However, the main focus was on procurement optimization using Kanban, which contributed to more efficient resource management and reduced procurement costs.
