In Lima, in Peru and the world as a whole, not enough importance is given to the elderly and their complex needs, such as health, attention, independence, mental and emotional health. The majority of the buildings in Lima are planned for the younger generations, without considering the other part of the population, although many elderly people can be healthy, the pass of time is inevitable. Nowadays the traditional idea of an elderly person doesn’t represent the majority of that population anymore. Thanks to the constant advances in the technology and medical fields, humans live longer and better. The majority of elderly people still work and have plans for years to come about their careers and personal life. Specifically, in Peru, the idea of an active elderly population is still a new concept, but it has been getting stronger and more common. The need to solve problems like the loneliness and isolation of the elderly population has been getting more importance and the priority now is to reintroduce or keep them active in society. Therefore, the intention with this project is to design a cohousing for assisted living for the elderly, with the main function of providing a home, preserver their independence, create a community and promote an active and happy life.
