Nowadays, climate change is affecting the entire planet, climatic factors generate a variation in the magnitude and frequency of precipitation; and, consequently, these can alter the hydrological regime of rivers. Existing hydraulic structures may not be suitable for long-term design purposes. The present research performs an analysis of the calculation of peak flows through hydrological modeling including historical and future climatic characteristics for the year 2050 in the San Juan River in the department of Cajamarca. The work methodology starts with the calculation of the design hyetogram, then the hydrological modeling includes infiltration loss, rainfall-flow transformation method and flood transit through the HEC-HMS. The results reveal that, in the case of the San Juan River sub-basin, climate change is having an upward effect on the precipitation level, since the future scenario shows an increase in the maximum flow in all the climate models used. The results obtained from this research will serve for a reevaluation of the hydraulic structures already built, as well as those planned to be built in the San Juan River region.
