This work seeks to analyze the effect that corruption has on economic growth between the years 1984 to 2016 using the International Risk Country Guide as a variable that reflects said variable, and other macroeconomic variables such as GDP growth, public investment, terms of trade, among others. other variables. The objective was to seek to demonstrate that corruption could have a positive effect on economic growth, under the assumption that such action helps to avoid the barriers generated by excess corruption. But there is also the postulate that indicates that corruption has a negative effect on economic growth, under the assumption that this variable generates negative incentives for private investment. The study was carried out for 16 Latin American countries, excluding Venezuela and Argentina for having macroeconomic scenarios distorted by high levels of political and economic instability. From the models carried out, it was determined that the variable that seeks to graph corruption (ICRG) is not significant as an explanatory of economic growth.
