The objective of this study is “to obtain geopolymer cement for the production of shotcrete from the alkaline activation of mining tailings“, with the purpose of improving the compressive strength, hardening and fluidity of shotcrete used for the support of subway workings. For this purpose, alkaline activators such as sodium silicate (Na₂SiO₃) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) will be used. Similarly, to define the mechanical characteristics obtained in shotcrete from geopolymer cements with NaOH concentrations of 12 M and 15 M, standardized tests are performed to define the compressive strengths of shotcrete on cylindrical specimens. The results achieved include the potential of eco-efficient cement with a compressive strength of up to 19 MPa after 28 days, up to 73% reduction of CO2 emissions from Portland cement production and include sustainable alternatives to the use of tailings. Therefore, it is proposed to develop sustainable geopolymer cements used as materials to produce shotcrete with improved properties.
