Reading habits in the country indicate that 15.5% of Peruvians read on a daily basis and 80% do not go to libraries (Instituto de Opinión Publica de la Pontifica Universidad Católica del Perú [IOP-PUCP], 2015). This is because the taste for the book and the experience of reading at the local-district level is not properly promoted, since there is scarce attractive cultural infrastructure that has trained professional staff and an adequate amount of updated material (College of Library Librarians Peru, 2015). Of the 43 districts that make up Metropolitan Lima, Comas is the district with the greatest cultural activity recognized as the “Cultural Capital of North Lima“, while the other 5 districts that do not manage libraries (Breña, El Agustino, Punta Negra, San Bartolo San Juan Miraflores) have less cultural activity (Ministry of Culture, 2017) It has been observed that the ways of learning or carrying out educational activities are often given not in classrooms or reading rooms as it is believed, but rather in new non-traditional spaces where socialization is greater (Australian Learning and Teaching Council, 2009). Considering that what is sought with the project is the interpersonal development of the user, the notion of an educational space is of great importance. For this, Nair and Fielding (2005) mention the need for a new configuration outside the conventional pedagogical space, reinforcing the idea of a shared space that allows more active learning. The present work intends to investigate how the criteria of design of shared spaces would be able to configure an environment that encourages the reading, learning and interpersonal development of users in a Public Library in Comas; and define through which architectural elements and design strategies spaces can be generated that generate interaction and collaboration of members of a direct environment.
