Peru has almost 5% of the world runoff, but it cannot be used in its entirety because almost 75% of the annual mass is concentrated in the rainy season. Likewise, most of the runoff is found in the basins belonging to the Amazon, while the largest amount of the population is concentrated in the Pacific basins, especially in the city of Lima, where there is little water availability. The Santa River supplies hydraulic works of national magnitude, such as the Cañón del Pato hydroelectric power station, “the Special Project (PE) Chavimochic and the PE Chinecas ”; even so, there are important volumes wasted in the Pacific Ocean, reason for this, in this Thesis the construction of a dam in the source of the Santa river in the Conococha sector is proposed . The water supply of the Santa river at 75% persistence is 99.49 m 3 /s similar to 3137.5 Hm 3 /year and there is a demand for water from the Chavimochic and Chinecas projects of 80,711 m 3 /s similar to a volume of 2545.3 Hm 3 /year, from which it is concluded that there is a surplus of water from the rainy season of 628.37 Hm 3 /year and there is a deficit of 53.3 Hm 3 /year in the dry season. To take advantage of the abundant water availability of the Santa River, dams are required, for which adequate topographic, geological and environmental characteristics are needed. In the Santa river basin, the best exploitation alternatives are found in the headwaters, that is, in the surroundings of the Conococha lagoon . This sector is characterized by a flat topography, where a dam with a height of 4 m could store 8 MMC, and with a height of 10 m a volume of water could accumulate 50 MMC, the total annual rainfall in this sector is 668.9 mm/year, with an average annual runoff of 4,785 m 3 /s in the axis of the dam that has been generated using the Weap software To determine the size of the dam it has been vital to know the following: the supply of water in the axis of the dam, the water deficit and the topographic characteristics of the reservoir. Likewise, the use of the Weap software has made it possible to determine the volume of the proposed dam at 30 Hm 3 . The water supply during the dry season of the Santa River in the Conococha sector will increase by 66.5%, due to the regulation of water disposal in the rainy season, which will be stored in a regulation dam.
