Background: The parenting style that parents possess influences the emotional responses that children have to certain situations; In particular, people with addictions show difficulties in managing their emotions, and may resort to psychoactive substances as an external form of self-regulation. Objectives: to determine the relationship between the dimensions of perceived parenting styles and functional/dysfunctional cognitive strategies of emotional regulation in adults and young people from therapeutic communities in Lima. Method: 193 adults and young people residing in a therapeutic community in Lima participated. Two instruments were applied: The Parenting Styles and Perceived Inconsistency Scale (EPPIP) and the Cognitive Emotional Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ-18). Results: show that there is a direct and significant relationship between affect and focus on plans. Also, there is a direct and significant correlation between indifference and self-blame.
