This research examines the impact of the spillover effects of the real exchange rate and its volatility on the exports of South American countries. The behavior of these variables on exports is estimated through SAR models. A sample of nine countries is used (Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay) during the period from 1980 to 2021. Different variables are used such as GDP, the real exchange rate and the volatility of the RER, as well as export spillover variables, RER, volatility and global demand. The result was that the RER has a positive and non-significant impact. Regarding its volatility, it was found that it has a negative and significant relationship. And finally, when analyzing the spillover effects of these variables, the most relevant results were that GDP is a positive and significant factor while the RER has a negative and significant impact on the exports of the country analyzed. Furthermore, this study gains importance by offering concrete evidence from countries with different economic characteristics with which to deeply understand the impact of uncertainty in the real exchange rate on exports and policies to promote economic integration.
