Over time, the manufacturing industry has evolved enormously, due to the great competitiveness perceived in the market, so more and more efficient processes with reduced downtime and the least amount of defects are required. In this sense, in order to remain in force, it is necessary to implement engineering techniques or tools that contribute to the improvement of companies in terms of their processes. In order to obtain a better operational performance, establish a work area in optimal conditions and provide a quality service to customers. In the present study a low efficiency in the productive process was evidenced, therefore, a deeper analysis was made in relation to it and it was obtained that the failures in the machinery as well as the reprocesses due to defects are the main causes. Consequently, an improvement model based on the 5S and TPM tools is proposed with the objective of reducing the representative costs that are occurring due to the described problem, which represent 7.45% of the income. In addition, the aim is to reduce unproductive time by 77% and the amount of reprocesses by 43%, once the main causes have been addressed. In this way, it is expected that companies belonging to the plastics or related sectors will use the results to be obtained as a reference to achieve continuous improvement.
