Open pit and underground mining units continually seek to improve the productivity of their operations to obtain greater benefits and, therefore, economic viability. The loading and hauling process in mining corresponds to one of the most important stages in the execution of the mining business because these activities represent 60% of the total production costs of the mining cycle and also because, to a large extent, many factors directly depend on the performance and efficiency in which this process is carried out. Therefore, this process must be planned assertively to carry out the correct distribution of equipment and thereby achieve its efficient execution so that it adjusts to the process plans. However, one of the major problems or difficulties encountered in the loading and hauling process within a surface mine is related to unproductive times or operational delays, which is evident in the operation and has an impact on low operational performance and decrease in operating profit. Therefore, it is essential to identify continuous improvement methodologies based on innovative solutions using technological tools to provide an optimal solution to the problem. In this order, in this research, we propose, as a solution to the problem of the generation of unproductive times in loading and hauling activities, its planning based on the simulation of the process, using the Arena software. In this way, identify the determining factors of unproductive times and proceed to correct them, thereby contributing to the improvement of operational times and, consequently, reducing delay times, thus improving efficiency in the execution of this process.
