The purpose of this professional proficiency project was to address the low availability of equipment in the eight fuel dispatch islands of the fuel dispatch process at a hydrocarbon refinery. The reference data for maintenance and production work orders from January 2021 to December 2022 were used. Additionally, qualitative and quantitative analysis tools were employed to determine the causes related to equipment failures and deficient maintenance management. Consequently, to address the identified causes, the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodology was implemented in three stages: planning, improvement (execution), and sustainability (maintenance). The implementation commenced in January 2023. As part of the results, the closure of the first semester of 2023 was considered. The average time between failures increased from 29 to 30 days, and the average repair time decreased from 3.95 to 3.5 days. Moreover, with improvements in these variables, the overall average availability of the dispatch islands increased from 88% to 91% compared to the last semester of 2022. In conclusion, this successful implementation of the methodology had a positive impact, leading to an increase in fuel dispatch revenue from 11,767.15 to 12,159.32 kUSD per semester.
