The work presents the design of a system to control CO2 and CO levels in mine ventilation fans through a PID control implemented in Siemens S7-1200 PLCs. The current issue of using fiber optics for data transmission in this context is explained. As an alternative, a wireless solution based on radio communication in the UHF band between a master module on the surface and remote modules inside the mine is proposed. Robust components are selected such as PLCs, variable frequency drives, gas sensors, IP66 metallic enclosures and industrial transceivers. The control architecture design, equipment layout and wiring diagrams are presented. Through simulation in TIA Portal, the system's operation is validated. It is economically compared with the option of using fiber optics, with the wireless proposal proving more viable. In conclusion, the objective of designing a wireless monitoring system to regulate CO2 and CO levels is achieved, using robust equipment and protocols for mining environments. The solution is validated technically and economically. It is recommended to extend the work by performing field tests and considering cybersecurity aspects in the implementation. In the appendices, details of mechanical drawings are outlined to complete the documentation.
