The water balance of the CHINECAS project has been carried out using reliability indices in time and volume, based on the historical record of discharges from the Santa River measured at the Cóndor Cerro hydrometric station, where there is an average annual discharge of 140,967 m3/ s. The CHINECAS irrigation project consists of the collection and diversion of water from the Santa River, to improve the irrigated areas of the Santa-Lacramarca, Nepeña and Casma valleys and also expand the agricultural frontier in the Chimbote, Nepeña and Casma deserts of 25758 hectares, whose water demand is 1273.51 MMC/year. It is important to highlight that within the water demand of the CHINECAS project, the population demand of the cities of Chimbote, Nepeña and Casma is being considered and also the ecological flow of the Santa River, which is 5 m3/s equivalent to an annual mass. of 157.68 MMC/year. In the water balance carried out, attention to the demand for water for population use and the ecological flow has been considered as priority, which is why demand coverage is 100%. Finally, the reliability indexes in time for the different irrigation sectors are 88.2% and the reliability index in volume is 96.2%, which means that the water supply of the Santa River meets the demand with a high percentage of security. of water.
