The main objective of this research was to compare the structural designs of reinforced concrete and metal structures to suggest a more economical design for the construction of multifamily houses using applied engineering software. To achieve this, as a first activity, structural modeling of both configurations was carried out in the ETABS 21 software, obtaining the results of the static and dynamic analyzes with their respective verifications based on the parameters established in Technical Standard E.30 Earthquake-Resistant Design of the National Regulation. of Buildings such as: participatory masses and vibration periods, static and dynamic basal shears, distortions per mezzanine, displacements per floor and verification of minimum shear forces, which guarantee the safety and stability of both structures. The main results are that the 10-story reinforced concrete building is lighter than the steel one, with a difference of 42.10 tons. Likewise, both structures present similarity in the aspects of safety and stability, since their vibration periods exceed 0.5 seconds, considered long fundamental periods, none of them presenting torsional irregularity. This can be corroborated in the values of the distortions per mezzanine of both configurations, which do not exceed the limits allowed according to Regulation E.030 of the National Building Regulations. Finally, it was determined that the most economical structure is that of metal structures, resulting in a total of S/5,696,740.55 compared to a total of S/6,123,512.59 resulting from the reinforced concrete configuration, with a difference of S/426,772.04.
