The general objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of drinking water in four areas of Lima, using citizen science as a tool for data collection and analysis. The methodology involved the active participation of the community in water sampling and pH measurement for six weeks. The results obtained were compared with water quality standards, and factors that could affect pH levels were identified. The relevant results showed that the areas of San Bartolo (Namua condominium) and Ate Vitarte (Kampu condominium) presented slight variations in the pH of the water, within the acceptable limits according to quality standards. However, in the areas of Comas (Unno condominium) and San Miguel (C.H. Julio C. Tello), pHs were observed close to the lower and upper limits, respectively, which could indicate the need for adjustments in water treatment. The main conclusion of this study is that active community collaboration through citizen science is a valuable tool for monitoring drinking water quality. In addition, it highlights the importance of keeping a close eye on water treatment processes and responding effectively to disruptive events, such as massive supply outages, to ensure the continuity of safe water and within quality standards.
