In 2020, 49% of Ecuador's population, over 15 years old, belonged to the unbanked sector and more than 50% had access to smartphones. This situation generated a great business opportunity and promoted the creation of a fintech with the support of technological partners (Banco Central del Ecuador, 2020; Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos [INEC], 2017). To assist the unbanked and underbanked sector in Ecuador, a digital wallet was developed through the use of cloud technology and an agile framework. This digital wallet is a mobile application that use Amazon Web Services (AWS) components whose main functionality is sending money from person to person (P2P) quickly, safely and without having a banking account. Besides, the first digital card in Ecuador was implemented to make online purchases and among other functionalities. In the first year of launching, the wallet exceeded the target of 50k users, 52% of them were part of the banked and underbanked sector. Finally, more than 770,000 transactions were recorded, which evidenced the acceptance of digital payment methods in the Ecuadorian market versus the initial trend of using cash.
