Objective: Determine the association between arterial hypertension in adult patients and neurological symptoms due to COVID-19 during the course of the disease. Methods: The present study was of an observational, cross-sectional analytical type. The population consisted of adults between 40 and 60 years old with a positive diagnostic test for COVID 19 during 2020 and 2021 in the department of Lima, Peru. The variables of interest were hypertension as exposure, and neurological symptoms as outcome variable; measured by poll, using the Delphi method (instrument validated); answered by self-report. Results: 354 individuals with a mean age of 56 (SD: 4.65) were analyzed; where a total of 188 participants suffered from hypertension (53.1%; 95% CI) and 141 participants (39.8%; 95% CI) had neurological symptoms. A statistically significant association was found to be 2.57 (1.76 - 3.76) times more likely to present neurological symptoms if one had a history of high blood pressure (p = 0.009; 95% CI). Furthermore, those patients in this age range had a 1.05 higher prevalence of presenting neurological symptoms. However, no significant association was found between the severity of neurological symptoms and high blood pressure. Conclusion: An association was found between arterial hypertension and neurological symptoms; there being a higher prevalence of neurological symptoms in the participants infected with COVID 19, who had a history of arterial hypertension. Periodic monitoring of neurological symptoms is recommended in these patients.
