Objective: Determinate the association between self-awareness of the periodontal state and the burnout syndrome in dentistry students in Peru. Materials and Methods: The study was observational, analytical, and cross-sectional. Self-perception of periodontal status was assessed through a self-administered survey on periodontal health, and burnout syndrome was evaluated using the MBI-Services Students instrument in a total of 508 dental students. Additionally, sociodemographic questions from the National Household Survey and a self-reported survey on oral hygiene habits were administered. Data were analyzed using absolute and relative frequencies for categorical variables and the median for numerical variables. For bivariate analysis, Fisher's exact test was used for dimensions of self-perception of periodontal status for categorical variables and numerical variables, the Mann-Whitney U test was used. and for the association of burnout syndrome vs self-awareness of the periodontal state have been used the Poisson regression (P≤0.05). Results: The prevalence of burnout was 89.9% (mild level) and self-awareness of the periodontal state highlighted that the surveyed consider the good condition of their teeth(45.67%). A statistically significant association was evidenced with the dimension of disease in the gums(p=0.01), bone loss(p=0.03) and dental movement(p=0.04). In the crude model. However, in the adjusted model no statistically significant association with any of the dimensions were found. (p>0.05). Conclusion: An association was found between burnout syndrome and the gum disease, bone loss and tooth mobility dimensions of self-perceived periodontal status.
