This qualitative research covers the problems and gaps found in cost analysis in a nonprofit organization along with the framework that reinforces the importance of cost accounting in a nonprofit organization, and mainly the application of break-even analysis, given its practicality and importance as a process within the analysis of the costs of a social impact project and decision making. A relevant clarification throughout the research is that the purpose of this type of organizations is to be able to continue generating social impact projects, and that their main profits or profitability translates into improvements in indicators of quality of life, education, health or environment of communities or individuals. That is why the usefulness or importance of the analysis of the cost-volume-profit model, break-even point, or other cost analysis tool, will allow adequate financial decisions to be made in order to optimize resources and be sustainable over time. The analysis of the break-even point as a process will be a relevant activity to be able to consolidate the validation processes of each source of financing per project in an organization that requires constant control of its cost structure.
