Currently, there is no doubt about the impact that technologies have had in the field of research and application of civil engineering. Due to this influence, traditional processes have been transformed in the different stages of the execution of construction projects. It has also been possible to increase the standards demanded by the market, such as efficiency and effectiveness with the lowest investment. In this sense, the fundamental objective of this research was “Implement a procedure to reduce the costs of the formwork item through modulation and disassembly in the BIM environment of a multi-family building”, considering that the quantification of the formwork continues to be a problem that leads to cost overruns. Therefore, a general identification of the influence that BIM modeling has on the quantification of the formwork was carried out, taking into consideration the procedures of the traditional method. Subsequently, the formwork control procedure was described using the traditional methodology and the BIM in the work taken as a sample, then the formwork control procedure was described using the BIM, ending with the implementation of the procedure used and the evaluation of the results in comparison with traditional methodology. The results of the research found that formwork is a serious problem and BIM is a methodology that can minimize failures and economic losses on site. Specifically, formwork modeling using BIM can improve formwork quantification, planning, design, information processing, etc.
