The objective of this research is to determinate the effect of having health insurance on access to treatment of depressive symptoms in Peru for the period 2013-2022, according to the level of care in which such treatment is received. To this end, data from the data from the Demographic and Family Health Survey (DFHS) were selected and the multinomial Logit methodology was used. The results shown that having health insurance in general does increase the probability of treatment, whether as primary or non-primary care. Nevertheless, it was noted that it was public insurance that increased the probability of access, because private insurance was not found to be significant. The wealth index generates an improvement in the likelihood of receiving any care, as well as years of education and health status that turn out to have significant positive effects. Living in an urban area increases the probability to non-primary care and reduces the probability for primary care. The same happens for age. Being male had significant negative effects.
