In any mining project that is developed in an open pit, the quantification of earthworks is essential due to the cost involved in this activity. The conditions of the terrain and the regulation in safety standards limit conventional topographic surveying. This research seeks to reduce the time for quantification of earthworks by obtaining photogrammetric topography with a drone. The determination of a ratio regarding the cost and time for the execution of a topographic survey. A comparison was made of data obtained from conventional topographic surveys and photogrammetric surveys with drones carried out during the period from June to December 2022, in an area located in the department of Apurímac. Likewise, a procedure was designed to obtain topography based on drone photogrammetry. This study presents a quantitative methodology and evaluated variables such as: execution time in the survey of terrain information, comparative day cost in the development of the types of surveys of terrain information and precisions obtained from a photogrammetric survey based on a survey performed with a laser scanner. The results obtained indicate that a photogrammetric survey with a drone reduces the execution time by 30% compared to a topographic survey. The man-hour time was reduced by 44%, a 95% confidence planimetric accuracy of 0.028 m and a 95% confidence vertical accuracy of 0.024 were obtained. In conclusion, drone photogrammetric surveying should be implemented in the infrastructure planning and construction of an open pit mining project.
