In the city of Lima, the problem of traffic congestion has increased due to various factors, including the limited road safety education of users, which has affected several districts of the city, one of them being San Borja. That is why the purpose of this thesis is to analyze the current situation of traffic congestion at the intersection of San Luis and De Las Artes Norte avenues in the district of San Borja, Lima. For the study, field data on vehicle capacity was taken to calculate delays per vehicle and obtain levels of service. Then, a model was developed to carry out a micro simulation of the study area using the Vissim software, where Wiedemann 74 parameters were considered to calibrate and validate the model and, in this way, achieve that it resembles as closely as possible to the reality of the area and the behavior of the drivers. Field data was used to simulate current conditions in the model to otherwise determine levels of service. Afterwards, three proposals for improvement were made. The first was to modify the geometric design of the intersection to increase capacity. The second, on the other hand, involved changes in traffic lights to increase the fluidity of vehicular flow. The third proposal was based on restricting left turns by modifying the geometry of the intersection to divert vehicles making that movement. After that, a comparative analysis of the results of the proposals and the current situation was carried out and the alternative that represents a better solution to the problem was selected, with the left turn restriction proposal being the most effective.
