The level of digitization, measured by internet access, encourages the use and access to financial services. Consumers find digital transactions more attractive compared to physical ones due to the lower transaction costs and the speed and confidence they provide. The ability to perform easier online transactions could have repercussions on an individual's credit quality because the lower transaction costs in digital media incentivize the immediate acquisition of new debt instruments such as credit cards and loans. In the current study, through a two-stage regression analysis using the 2022 National Household Survey, the effect of digitization on the demand for financial services is analyzed, and subsequently, the implications on an individual's default probability are examined. The results show that being digitized increases the number of financial services an individual possesses or demands by 0.22. Finally, being digitized increases the likelihood of defaulting by 19 p.p. times compared to not being digitized.
