The construction of a canal always requires an adequate lining to avoid infiltration losses, eliminate erosive effects, eliminate weeds and have an optimal section that allows the passage of water. The study site is the Pukajirka irrigation canal, located in the district of Anra in the province of Huari, Ancash. The objective of the research will focus on evaluating different synthetic linings to the canal using the hydraulic criterion of maximum hydraulic efficiency (MEH). It also includes a comparison of environmental impact taking into account the global warming potential (GWP) based on the manufacture of the lining materials. As part of the analysis process, the new channel geometry was estimated using the MEH criterion with the H-Channels program, then the values of hydraulic parameters such as: shear stress, flow velocity, flow type were estimated and compared with pre-established limits in manuals and design guidelines. Based on this study, the following has been concluded: - The values of the hydraulic parameters obtained such as: tie rod, sill width, velocity, flow type, shear stress; are the same between HDPE and LDPE geomembrane. The only differential parameter studied between the two geomembranes is the Manning's roughness coefficient, which in these cases have the same value because they have the same roughness coefficient. - It has been determined that the concrete lining is the most efficient option for lining the canal, taking into account the hydraulic and environmental parameters in parallel. - With respect to the quantification of the environmental impact associated with the lining of the canal, it has been determined that PVC geomembrane is more harmful than the other materials.
