Services represent an important component of international trade. In Peru, the export of services has been consolidating due to its contribution to the economy and value-added solutions. In 2017, animation services reached USD 689,987 in exports, growing 147.73% in 2018 and decreasing 41.27% in 2019. At the beginning of the pandemic, given the demand for digital solutions, exports of animation services increased exponentially, reaching USD 4,005,173 in 2020 and demonstrating their potential to conquer foreign markets. However, exports registered a drop of 31.96% in 2021 and 25.66% in 2022. As a result, this research aims to understand the challenges of exporting digital animation services in Peru during the period 2017-2022. The challenges were categorized into technical, production, socio-cultural, and economic. The methodology used was a qualitative approach with an exploratory scope and grounded theory since it allowed the understanding of the problem and the establishment of theory with the information obtained, due to the scarcity of research on the national sector. For this, interviews were conducted with 16 professionals from animation exporting companies registered by PromPerú. Furthermore, 9 interviews were conducted with public entities, academic experts, and associations, all related to the sector. Consequently, the transcripts were processed and analyzed in Atlas.ti® through network views. In addition, findings were made such as the shortage of human talent, decentralization, etc. Likewise, it was concluded that there are challenges that hinder animation exports. Finally, recommendations were presented for companies, the State, and academia to promote the development of the sector.
