Introduction: The use of social networks can trigger in some cases addictive behaviors and/or risks to which users are exposed, such as sexting. In addition, its possible relationship with self-esteem and the search for sensations. Objective: To identify the relationship between sexting, self-esteem and sensation seeking in university students in Metropolitan Lima. Method: The sample consisted of 151 young people and adults (40.5% men and 59.5% women) from 18 to 30 years old (M= 21.8; DE= 3.09), the following were used: the Sexting Behavior Scale (ECS), the Rosenberg's Self-Esteem and Sensation Seeking. Results: Significant but weak correlations were found between the sexting total score and sensation seeking (rs = .30). In addition, of their sexting dimensions: active disposition towards sexting (rs =.33) and real participation in sexting (rs = .20). However, no significant relationships were found with the dimension of emotional expression in sexting (rs = .05) and with self-esteem (rs = .08). According to sex, no significant differences were found in any of the variables. Regarding the type of relationship, significant differences were found between sexting and casual sex; in addition to its dimensions of active disposition towards sexting and real participation in sexting. In conclusion, the practice of sexting is related to the search for sensations, especially in the active disposition towards sexting and actual participation in sexting.
