The terrorist events that took place in the 1980s left their mark on Peruvian society. One of these events was the murder of eight journalists in Uchuraccay in 1983. The confusion of the members of that community due to the terrorist threat of the Shining Path caused them to distrust any stranger who approached their community. In addition, the Peruvian army instructed them to defend themselves with the use of force and violence to protect their inhabitants. Because of this, the community members thought that the journalists were members of the terrorist group and killed them. Due to the murder of the Lima journalists, the media acted by spreading the information to the whole country and in the midst of the disinformation generated a wave of negative accusations against the community members, even though it was a mistake because they confused them with terrorists. The influence of the Peruvian media caused a derogatory reaction on the Andean community of Peru causing sensationalist news that discredited the image of the people living in the Peruvian Andes and in the provinces of the country.
