This thesis examines in depth the components which construct the journalistic work of the newspaper El Comercio, in its web version, during the last stage of the second electoral round of 2016 in Peru (06 to June 20). The relevance of the investigation is that during that stage of polarization the media assumed a clear position in favor of a candidate, establishing itself as a predominant and influential political actor for public opinion García (2021). El Comercio is a benchmark for national journalism, being the oldest newspaper of the Peruvian written press and the most important. Although there are previous works that analyze an aspect of journalistic coverage, this work analyzes it with an integrative perspective, contemplating aspects such as headlines, downloads, photographs, meanings of the text, among others, providing a broad and distinctive look. In that sense, the general objective of the research is to describe the characteristics of the journalistic coverage of El Comercio in its online version during the final stage of the second electoral round of 2016 (June 6 to June 20), as well as the specific objectives of the same are, in the first place, to describe the characteristics of El Comercio's online coverage of Fujimori during the final stage of the 2016 runoff election and, secondly, to describe the characteristics of El Comercio's online coverage of Kuczynski during the final stage of the 2016 second round of elections. The method used to describe the journalistic work carried out by the newspaper was the descriptive-comparative analysis of the products generated by El Comercio, finding as its main finding the change of preference of Fujimori's media towards Kuczynski and a truthful coverage in relation to the events that occurred in the national and international context.
