Background: Disinformation has had a major effect in the current days, it represents a massive and ongoing challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: To evaluate the association between disinformation and COVID-19 knowledge, attitudes and practices in a sample of subjects in Peru. Methods: An analytical cross-sectional observational study was carried out, through an online survey of 1014 residents of Peru between February 2 and March 24, 2021. To do this, an instrument divided of 3 sections was designed and validated, the first part was demographic characteristics, the second was about disinformation and the last one addresses COVID-19 knowledge, attitudes and practices. Results: 1014 surveys were analyzed with an average age of 34.8 years. The average score of the disinformation questionnaire was 30.5 out of 100 (SD 16.2). The scores observed in the knowledge, attitudes and practices questionnaires were 80.2 ± 12.6, 90.1 ± 14 and 84.02 ± 11, respectively. We reported that a lower score on the disinformation questionnaire is related to a higher level of knowledge (RP = 0.99; IC95% 0.98 - 0.99; p=<0.001) and good attitudes (RP = 1.00; IC95% 1.00 – 1.00; p=0.004). The female sex is associated with good attitudes (RP = 1.06; IC 95% 1.02 – 1.11; p=0.002) and good practices (RP = 1.14; IC 95% 1.07 – 1.2; p=0.031). In addition, age is associated to good practices (RP = 1.00; IC95% 1.010 – 1.01; p=<0.001). Conclusions: People who have higher levels of disinformation have a lower level of knowledge and more inappropriate attitudes towards COVID-19.
