Introduction: Protein intake is fundamental in athletes since it helps the recovery of muscle tissue and the optimization of their physical aptitudes. An adequate protein intake in acyclic sports (1.4-1.7 g/kg/day) benefits the athlete's performance, among them, the power of the lower limbs. Objective: To evaluate the association between daily protein intake and the lower limbs power in athletes from a private university in Lima. Methodology: An Analytical cross-sectional study carried out on 95 athletes from 18 to 25 years of age. To measure the power of the lower limbs, the mobile application “My jump 2“ was used and to estimate the daily protein intake, the self-managed food intake frequency questionnaire was used. The coefficients were calculated using a linear regression model. Results: The 70.5% of the athletes were men with a median protein intake of 1.77 g/kg/day. The mean power of the lower limbs was 24.4 W/kg. For every 1 g/kg/day, an average increase of 0.9 W/kg was observed in lower limb power [Coefc = 0.9 (p=0.049)]. Likewise, when increasing the intake of protein of animal origin by 1 g/kg/day, the improvement in power was 1.03 watts/kg [Coefc = 1.03 (p=0.044)]. In both cases, this significance is lost when adjusting for the confounding variables. Conclusions: A meaningful association was found between protein intake and lower limb power. However, when adjusting, this significance was lost.
