The objective of this research was to determine whether emotional intelligence has an influence on work performance, focusing on the hotel industry, specifically in 5-star hotels in the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro in Lima city. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, descriptive-explanatory research with quantitative approach was developed, in which it was sought to know if the influence of emotional intelligence would positively or negatively affect the workers performance in these companies. A detailed search for information, background, sources and theoretical bases that served as a basis and support for the proposed research was carried out. Two questionnaires were selected based on Wong and Law's models for emotional intelligence and Williams and Anderson's for work performance, in order to know the reality of the selected sample and determine the validation or rejection of the hypothesis. To validate the selected questionnaires, interviews were conducted with experts in human resources and professionals in the hotel industry, then the questionnaires were applied to employees of the hotels WJ Marriott, Swissotel, Miraflores Park Hotel, The Westin Lima Hotel, The Country Club Lima Hotel, from which valuable information was collected, achieving the distribution of 343 surveys sending by a virtual form. On the other hand, by applying Pearson's Chi-square and Spearman's correlation coefficient, the result was 0.001 and 0.561 respectively, which showed that there is a considerable association between both variables. Subsequently, a two-dimensional analysis was performed for each hypothesis, which finally confirmed the influence of the emotional intelligence variable on the work performance variable in a directly proportional way.
