This article aims to analyze the English translation of the willakuy oral features in Cuentos del tío Lino from a pragmatic perspective, in its twelfth edition published in 2016 by Lluvia Editores which shows the English translated stories. This compilation of oral-based stories depicts in the written text the collective memory of the Contumaza district (Cajamarca, Peru) through a style that recreates the popular Andean spoken language originated from the contact between Spanish and Quechua, evokes a willakuy performance, and conveys Andean world view’s elements. The comparative analysis indicates that the original style is modified in the target text due to the use of the written language normative and typical structures which transform the translation into a standardized text that prioritizes readability. This standardization removes the representation of the willakuy performativity, thus, the source text’s aesthetic function.
