The aim of this study was to relate emotional intelligence and the intensity of grief in young university students from Metropolitan Lima. A total of 196 people were assessed, selected in a non-probabilistic way – by convenience, with the Brief Inventory of Emotional Intelligence for Adults (EQ-i-M20) adapted by Dominguez-Lara, Merino-Soto and Gutiérrez-Torres (2018) and the Revised Texas Inventory of Grief (ITRD) adapted by García, Landa, Manzano and Gaminde (2005). A correlational associative design was used and a negative and small correlation was found between both variables. Likewise, the frequencies of the levels of emotional intelligence and of the intensity of grief were presented: in both cases, the population was proportionally distributed in the different categories. Additionally, it was identified that the correlation between the variables according to the type of death, in the case of unexpected death, is negative and small, while in expected death, it is negative and medium. It was also found that the correlation of both variables according to sex, in the case of women, is negative and small, and in men, there is no correlation between the variables under study. Finally, it was concluded that, except in the case of men, all correlations were significant, negative and of small or medium magnitude.
