As of 2018, Peru is recognized as one of the most important producers of certified coffee, with Cajamarca and San Martín being the regions with the highest production of coffee with “Rainforest Alliance“ certification (Asociación de Exportadores, 2019). This certification assures customers that production meets their standards, using environmental, social and economic criteria seeking to promote sustainability (Mora et al., 2020). This study has a main interest to analyze the relationship between the “Rainforest Alliance“ certification, hereinafter RA (independent variable) and the business competitiveness (dependent variable) of coffee exporters in Cajamarca and San Martín, between the years 2018-2021. The dimensions considered for RA certification are: “Economic Pillar“, “Social Pillar“ and “Environmental Pillar“. On the other hand, the dimensions of the dependent variable considered are: “Market diversification“, “Innovation“ and “Resource management“. The research considered a mixed approach and the type of design was cross-sectional descriptive-correlational. On the one hand, in the qualitative analysis, 11 experts in the “Rainforest Alliance“ certification topic and coffee exporting companies were interviewed with a semi-structured questionnaire that was processed in Atlas Ti software. On the other hand, in the quantitative analysis, 18 questionnaires were collected that used the Likert scale method and were processed with the SPSS software. As a result, it was shown that there is a moderate positive correlation between the variables because they obtained a significance value of 0.002 and a Rho Spearman coefficient of 0.66. Finally, the relationship of the dimensions with business competitiveness was determined.
