The present study analyzes how interpreting workshops students at Universidad Privada de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) in Lima, Peru, cope with stress during the emergency remote teaching or ERT (Hodges et al., 2020). The research approach of the present study is mixed. For the quantitative part, a survey based on the “Anxiety and Interpretation Learning Questionnaire” (Chiang, 2006) was performed. For the qualitative part, two focus groups were conducted. The results of this research indicate that the techniques (methods learned in educational spaces) and strategies (personal methods of applying techniques) applied by students depend on the self-efficacy of English as their second language (first active or acquired foreign language) and on the difficulties of ERT. Self-efficacy in their second language has an impact on the loss of concentration; hence, the student perceives a low-quality performance. Furthermore, students' strategies vary according to the level reached in the interpreting workshops. In the first workshops, participants prefer the avoidance strategy. Whereas, in the last ones, students choose to apply the problem-solving strategy. However, both groups can use a strategy, such as taking preventive measures, and at the same time a technique, such as the practice of relaxation technique. The difficulties of ERT are stressful for the student since they are constantly worried about distractors (background noises or connectivity issues). Therefore, they lose concentration and report the fact to their teachers.
