The main objective of this research is to identify the existence of the effect of child maltreatment on the academic performance of a Peruvian child. For this purpose, data from the 2019 ENARES were used to obtain information on the individual characteristics of the Peruvian child, the types of child maltreatment, including neglect and proxies of academic performance variables. Likewise, binary choice models were used, where the impact of the variables was analyzed through marginal effects and Odds ratio. The result obtained was that all types of violence in the home are significant and increase the probability that the child has a low academic performance, showing that neglect, witnessing violence and physical abuse have a greater effect, because it harms children through physical, cognitive and psychosocial aspects, in addition, limiting their basic needs, supervision and stimulants for good development and performance.
