This article analyzes the construction of humor in the sketch show “JB en ATV”, which is broadcasted every Saturday night and enjoys great popularity. The results of a descriptive study of the ethnic-racial and gender representations used in the program in order to generate humor, are presented. The research is of an interpretative paradigm with a qualitative approach. Content analysis and observation were used as data collection techniques. A content analysis guide was applied to 14 sketches of the program sequence “El casting de la tía Gloria”. The selection criteria were the high number of views on the official YouTube channel and the comic representation of women, Afro-descendants and people belonging to the LGBT community. In addition, a content analysis form was applied that considered as categories the psychological, physiological and social dimensions of the characters, in order to identify stereotypes, behaviors and characteristics traits. It is concluded that in this type of programs the groups studied do not obtain a real degree of belonging, since they only appear to generate humor by taking advantage of their physical features and their analytical and verbal clumsiness. In addition, each character fulfills an established role, a fact that reinforces stereotypes and distorts the image of the groups to which they belong. This work contributes to the study of humor in the media and stereotypes in ethnic-racial and gender representations. It also opens new lines of research that focus on the media literacy of the audiences that consume these programs.
