Most research on literary translation has focused on a linguistic-level contrastive analysis. There is little research on how translation affects character construction and characterization in the literature for children. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to discover how a character is portrayed through their speech, particularly, through certain linguistic elements such as occasionalisms and wordplay. The study will be conducted in two stages. First, a content analysis will be performed to allow coding of the linguistic elements in the text. As a result, it will be possible to identify patterns and classify occasionalisms and wordplay used in The BFG. Second, a contrastive analysis will be conducted to compare the source text and the target text. This will help identify the equivalences and analyze the translation techniques used to determine how the main character was characterized in the target text.
