The achievement motivation and vocational self-efficacy are expressed in the choice and maintenance of a career, self-knowledge and skills to be developed in it, play a fundamental role in a life project. In the investigation, the relationship between them was determined, in fourth and fifth year high school students from public institutions, in addition to identifying differences according to sex and grade. A correlational associative strategy design was used. Through an intentional non-probabilistic sampling, 138 students (42.2% men and 57.8% women) between 15 and 18 years old participated. The Self-efficacy Scale in Career Decision Making (AETDC) and the School Achievement Motivation Scale (EML) were applied. The results indicate that there are significant and positive correlations between the dimensions of both variables, with the exception of amotivation, which presented a negative association with the other variable. Most of the associations presented a moderate magnitude. Regarding the differences, they were only found according to the degree of study. In conclusion, the greater the vocational self-efficacy, the greater the predominance of achievement motivation in students in the last years of secondary school in public institutions.
