The educational situation in rural contexts requires educational leadership that acts under a territorial approach that meets the demands of the territories according to their geographical and social characteristics. In this framework, the present investigation was carried out with the objective of determining the relationship between pedagogical leadership and the territorial approach in rural directors of public EIs in the Ayacucho region. For this purpose, a qualitative study with phenomenological approaches was carried out. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to investigate the perceptions of five directors who work in the Peruvian public education system and the selection criterion was their experience in rural schools. The results of the research are the following: it is identified that the exercise of pedagogical leadership allows managers together with teachers and families to build solutions that favor the educational quality of the school. On the other hand, academic training regarding the territorial approach is absent in university centers and the actions that this approach entails are concentrated in the economic aspect and the institutional support of local, regional, and national instances. Likewise, it was identified that the role of pedagogical leadership in rural schools implies a series of challenges at the level of prejudices, inappropriate infrastructure, and inappropriate behavior of students. Finally, the results and reflections indicate that the territorial approach used in a pertinent manner leads to a better understanding of social and geographic spaces by rural managers. Also, it encourages the participation of communities, families, local, regional, and national authorities for the formulation of learning experiences.
