Introduction: The concern about the spread of COVID-19 has been related to the adoption of behaviors associated with the prevention and control of the disease. Faced with this problem, there are several factors both sociodemographic and clinical that influence levels of concern. Objective: To determine the factors associated with the concern about the contagion of COVID-19 in a rural population of Canta in Peru during 2021. Methodology: An exploratory analytical cross-sectional observational study was carried out with a non-probabilistic convenience sampling, in which all the habitants of the district of Canta, Peru were studied during July and August of 2021. Data were included of the survey, the Pfeiffer Brief Mental State Questionnaire, the Scale of Concern about the Contagion of COVID-19, the Scale of Fear of Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Peruvian Version and the DASS-21 questionnaire. Results: 151 people were included, whose average age was 39.3, (SD: 16.8). On the scale of concern about COVID-19, the mean was 14.60 (95% CI 13.8 - 15.4) out of a total of 24. The female sex presented a mean concern of 15.25 greater than that of the male sex (19.90). Participants with depression obtained a mean of 17.27, with anxiety a mean of 16.87 and with stress 17.09. A significant relationship was found between the variables relative who died from COVID-19 [1.50; (95% CI: 0.96 - 2.90)] and anxiety [1.94; (95% CI: -0.09 - 3.80)] in the multivariate analysis adjusted to the variables with significance in the bivariate. Conclusion: A significant association was found in the multivariate analysis between the associated factors and concern about COVID-19 adjusted for the variables relative who died from COVID-19 and anxiety. Likewise, a marginally significant association was determined in the model adjusted for the stress variable. For future studies, it would be recommended to validate the survey used in a rural population to obtain more accurate results.
