The aim of the research is determining the influence of macroeconomic factors (GDP, Unemployment, and Inflation) in the Non-Performing-Loan (NPL) Ratio of the Micro Finance Entities of Peru (Cajas Municipales de Ahorro y Crédito - CMAC) covering the years from 2014 to 2020. The work is focused in the micro finance sector due to these small finance institutions have experienced significant growth in the last years. The study includes a quantitative and causal analysis considering information referred to the GDP, Unemployment, Inflation and NPL indicators covering the period from 2014 to 2020. The information has been extracted from the database of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP Data). In addition, the study proposes several econometric models to identify the best fit that explains the hypotheses proposed through a linear regression analysis. The results showed that GDP and Inflation have a significant influence on the NPL ratio while unemployment does not have a relevant influence for the proposed model. The results of this work are important for the CMAC regarding the knowledge that it provides setting precedents for future studies and research regarding the analysis of the relations between NPL ratio and external factors of the microfinance institutions.
