Strategic planning, as the literature indicates, establishes the comprehensive course of action of operations in organizations to achieve their objectives, in a more orderly and rational way, resulting in a substantial tool for business success. In this sense, this research seeks to analyze the strategic planning used in family businesses and its contribution to the growth of sales and market share as part of organizational performance. Using a qualitative approach, the research focused on family businesses with operations in Metropolitan Lima that have strategic planning, to understand the particularities of their use, the family dynamics in this process, and whether it is beneficial for them. For this purpose, semi-structured interviews were conducted with managers of family businesses. After the interaction, it was possible to show that the strategic planning used by this companies is structured under usual elements, such as mission, vision, values, and objectives. This allows them to have a road map; that is, to be clear about where they want to go and how to achieve it. However, this use becomes more flexible to adapt to their needs and react quickly to changes in the market. In addition, the implication of the family in the business field is evident, in property and management, so it is vital to achieving a balance between each subsystem. Finally, the research concludes that managers of family businesses consider that the use of strategic planning contributes to the growth in sales and market share as part of the organizational performance of their companies.
