Introduction: This study evaluates the risk of the development of preeclampsia in primigravida teenage women compared to primigravida adult women. In Peru, the studies that have been made are controversial and different results have been obtained for this issue. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed in all primigravida women who gave birth in the Hospital II-1 from Rioja during January and December of 2019. Our exposure variable was age, which was divided in two groups: adolescents (≤19 years old) and adults (>19 years old). The outcome variable was preeclampsia. Results: Three hundred and seven patients were evaluated. It was found that 54,90% were adolescents and 45,10% were adults. It was not found a relation between the age and the development of preeclampsia. Nevertheless, there exists an association between the development of preeclampsia regarding nutritional state. The 8,12% of the pregnant were obese, of which 20,69% develop preeclampsia. Obesity rises to 126% the risk of developing preeclampsia. Conclusions: Teenage pregnancy is not a risk factor for the development of preeclampsia in pregnancy. However, obesity is a risk factor for the development of preeclampsia.
