The purpose of this research is to describe the information verification process in the coverage of the media La República and Ojo Público, as a strategic option to combat false news. Meanwhile, the work seeks to know the factors that intervene in a scenario with the dissemination of massive content, together with a sociopolitical crisis. That said, the government of former President Manuel Merino in 2020 was chosen as a case study. From this, the key points that allow conceptualizing the fact-checking process as a journalistic element at the national level during its period of time are developed. Within the theoretical framework, the concepts related to the investigation are built, in which the development of current journalism is explained, the phenomenon of fake news in recent years, and how this gave way to the first fact-checking in the international press. The methodology applied in this study was carried out from a qualitative approach, using an analysis matrix as an instrument and as a complement the semi-structured interview to better specify the objectives of the work. With this, the results of the analysis obtained are discussed and, finally, it is established as one of the main conclusions that fact-checking is the ideal journalistic tool to combat the dissemination of its imprecise content that may have spread as a result of the immediate.
