Objective: Determine the association between exposure to the consumption of psychoactive substances in adolescents and young people from the older cohort of Young Lives Study and the development of overweight or obesity. Methodology: Secondary data analysis of the older cohort of Peru from the prospective study Young Lives between 2009 - 2016, which had a population of 714 and after applying the eligibility criteria, a total of 581 participants resulted. At the beginning, exposures to the consumption of psychoactive substances (alcohol, tobacco and drugs) were evaluated during the third and fourth rounds, since the confidential questionnaires were started with questions regarding the consumption of these substances, after establishing the nutritional status of outcome in the fifth round, it was proposed to investigate whether there is any association with overweight/obesity. Results: There was a trend towards increased consumption of psychoactive substances, which was evidenced as the age of the participants increased. The consumption of alcohol, tobacco and drugs during the third and fourth rounds was not associated with the development of overweight/obesity in the fifth round. About overweight/obesity, an upward trend was observed that was expressed with the change in percentage points from the third (21.22%) to the fifth round (38.11%). Regarding the exposure variables, it was found that alcohol and tobacco consumption presented a 3% and 7% higher risk of being overweight/obese, respectively. However, drug use presented a 7% lower risk. Conclusion: Exposure to the consumption of psychoactive substances in adolescents and young people from the older cohort of the Young Lives study was not associated with the development of overweight or obesity.
