This research analyzes the existence of an effect of salary expectations between women and men on decision-making regarding enrolling in school, and how this would explain the differences in the probability of entering the labor market over time. Being that salary expectations work as a mechanism that encourages investment in education with the ultimate goal of ensuring their labor participation in the present. Consequently, the Heckprobit method is used for the longitudinal data available from the Encuesta Nacional de Hogares (ENAHO) corresponding to the period between 2015 and 2019. This research concludes that the hypothesis of the differentiated effect of expected income is valid for the Peruvian context. Because women expect less salary income than their counterparts, they do not consider the salary expectations from women of the older generation as an encouraging factor to invest in education. Despite this, they hope that the situation will change by investing in more years of education than their counterparts.
